Finally a good white coffee old town kopi shop with fast internet in jalan ipoh

good speed of internet via streamyx in old town white coffee jalan ipoh batu tiga

I just ran the popular Speedtest.net – The Global Broadband Speed Test at this location. Very spacious typical Malaysian restoran and it sometimes get’s extremely boring and monotonous when working from home office location only. Having fast internet is a must if we want to evolve… It’s not yet like Hong Kong or Singapore here, but they are catching up quickly. About time also…

As you can see they are using Streamyx. I am pleasantly surprised… speedwise.

Today I want nothing more than some good kopi susu, a good nasi lemak dish and acceptable fast internet.

They just seem to have this.

Somebody wrote something about slow Celcom Broadband internet.

June 17th, 2009 jangeirnaert No comments

Anthony (who almost forgot he had a blog :) ) wrote something about Celcom broadband slow and unstable on digiculturetravelexpatasia

24 Mar 2009 photo by Bеn For the past 2 months Celcom 3g constantly switches between HSDPA and WCDMA after 5 to 10 minutes of connection.
and it put him in google top 10 :) Nice. It shows that blogs really work for search engine marketing. And they are not fake.
And I wish that Malaysia had really fast internet.  Now I have admit, I am pretty happy with little Dell Mini 9 with Maxis Broadband.

Dell Mini 9 works fine for me.

Even if it does not have a big hard disk (which is not why I got this machine…) it does work fine. I have been running around with it in Kuala Lumpur and what I absolutely love about it is that I am not depending from any WIFI system to get to the internet.  The provider I use is Maxis. It’s best to go with the big boys (and girls) in this internet connectivity industry. They will eat the small ones anyways…

To know who is big and small just visit the PC fairs by PICOM in Malaysia. Judging by the size of their (shrinking) booth, you’ll know very quickly. Still look at the best deal…  In the end shop for quality for a fair price. Putting well trained staff at a booth might also help to acquire customers… Nothing is so annoying to talk to people who don’t know the product or the service…

The reasons why I choose for Maxis are :

- good coverage
- HSPA connection. Quite fast in reality. no fluctations.
- good service
- no nonsense product
- good wrapping of the hardware with a broadband plan
- no wires, no cable, nothing to plugin, really plug and play (not plug and pray)

I wondered who has been taking my newspapers (if we did not) so now we will know…

camera-working

It’s not like we have a big problem with theft over here, but it’s handy to know who shows up at your doorstep (wanted or unwanted) so now we will know who is taking our newspapers…

Maybe i’ll attach a system to this mini-camera that will send me an sms and email with the images when something or somebody pops up at our doorstep.

Very handy also if delivery people drop by and leave a note for package not delivered, since not home and so now with this you will know immediately…

Got a quick haircut at the indian barber.

February 21st, 2009 jangeirnaert No comments

You will see that the barbershops are mostly run by Malaysian Indian people over here. Found a 10 RM cheap close to Jalan Ipoh, Sang Suria Condo. I love it when good things, don’t cost too much. Reminds me of one of my more stingy dutch friend in Rotterdam :)
